“Democracy is how we come together to build the future,” said Glover. “As a young person, I’m worried that I’ll never be able to own a home or build a family. But apathy is not a solution. Voter education and civic engagement matter for the same reason community involvement matters.
"No man is an iceberg. We are part of a community. Look around you—what could you do to change the world into a more compassionate place?”
"His words echo a truth that older generations must remember: Today’s youth are not only leaders in training—they are already leading."
Benjamin Glover, a dedicated and passionate 16-year-old student from Wimbledon College, has made history by being elected as the first-ever Member of Youth Parliament (MYP) for Merton. His election marks a significant milestone for the community, as he takes on the responsibility of representing the voices of young people at a national level. With a strong commitment to advocating for issues that matter to his peers, Benjamin is eager to engage with local youth organisations and schools to ensure their perspectives are included in the policymaking process.
“I am truly honoured to have been elected as the Member of Youth Parliament for Merton,” Benjamin said. “I look forward to working with my peers, as well as local and national leaders, to ensure that the voices of young people are heard and that we create a positive impact in our community.” As MYP, Benjamin will represent Merton at the national level, engaging in debates, discussions, and initiatives that shape policies affecting young people across the UK.
Last Friday, Saratoga Springs Democratic Committee chair Pat Tuz resigned from her position for personal and business reasons. While it is sad to see someone so dedicated to their work depart, it’s a huge opportunity for serious change in the Saratoga Springs City Democratic Committee. With the upcoming primary and general elections looming, new leadership in the committee means the possibility of a new approach to politics, an approach that’s truly unique to Saratoga Springs. An approach that is built on campaigning for hard working, dedicated elected officials who will push this city forward through common sense solutions and an open dialogue with their constituents.
The city party chairs of the two political parties wield enormous influence over the political landscape of Saratoga Springs. Therefore, the person who fills the position of chair will have the opportunity to define the Democrats’ performance in November. I would strongly encourage anyone who believes that they can bring a new and revolutionary perspective to the city committee should reach out to the committee and get involved. The only question now is, who will step up?
–Respectfully submitted, Benjamin Glover, SSHS Class of 2026
